Irony Of The Word, “Peon” – Opinions From E. Curtis Johnson
America is a Republic, not a Democracy. The Latin root of Republic refers to the rule of law over majority opinion. Executive orders that infringe on the law are threats to our republic. An immigration crisis in 1986 led to President Reagan’s Immigration Reform and Control Act. A lack of enforcement of that law, along with immigrant’s misconceptions of President Obama’s so-called “Dream Act” of 2012, has contributed to the current border crisis.
The Dream Act was more about pandering to Latino voters to re-elect Obama and Democrats, than it was about helping “dreamers.” Obama’s threatened executive order concerning immigration is more about keeping control of the Senate in November, than it is about humanitarianism. These immigrants are just political pawns.
I’m E. Curtis Johnson. The Spanish word for pawn is peon. If you pronounce that Spanish word a few times and realize that politics, pawns, and peons, are all “p” words, you’ll understand what’s raining down on the rule of law in America.
