And The Oscar Goes To… – Opinions From E. Curtis Johnson
As a kid, sometimes my Mom gave me 50 cents for the Saturday matinee. One quarter for admittance and one quarter for a small popcorn and soda. The best part of the Saturday matinee came after I finished my soda. I’d make a snowball from the crushed ice and throw it! Other kids did the same. We threw whatever we had in our hands. The real fun was trying to hit the teenagers making out on the back row and notget beat up after the movie. Good times!
The Oscars are on TV this Sunday. Through some fluke, I actually saw one of the movies nominated for an Academy Award this year; “Captain Phillips.” I usually haven’t seen any of the nominated movies. I thought my motion picture apathy was unique. Not so!
According to Reuters, 67% of Americans have not seen any of the 11 films nominated.
My name is E. Curtis Johnson. Along with two-thirds of you, I’m still not paying much attention to what Hollywood is putting on the screen. I have stopped throwing things in theatres. Not because I’ve matured, but because in 2014 the law as another word for soda crushed ice snowballs: assault.
