“Not typical” is one definition of exceptional. Happy Veterans Day to those who argue that America is no longer, or never was, exceptional. In the past 78 years, America was the deciding factor in stopping the military advance of Nazi German, Imperialist Japan and the Communist Soviet Union. The world would be a different place had there not been a United States of America. Members of the military deserve the credit for that and have earned Veteran’s Day. As 2014 comes to a close, American military presence in Europe and the world keeps the latest version of Russian aggression in check. President Obama just visited Japan as a sign that America is there to counter growing Chinese military strength. No other military in the history of the world has defended as many nations freedom as the American military. That’s not typical for this world. That’s exceptional. For those who deride America, be sure to thank a veteran for ensuring your right to fixate on America’s missteps rather than our nation’s great strides.
