In the mid-1960’s my Mom sent me to play with my friend, Timmy, because he had Measles.  When Timmy got Mumps, I had another play date.  Apparently, Timmy’s house was a Petri dish for the virus’ my Mom’s generation mistakenly believed were harmless childhood diseases. Today, we know better. Measles is dangerous and can lead to deadly diseases, like Encephalitis and Pneumonia. I remember Mom saying, “It’s better you have this as a kid than as an adult.” The anti-vaccination movement is playing the odds with claims that vaccinations can be as dangerous as diseases. If it’s about odds, I’ll take scientific research over the opinions of bloggers. Pharmaceutical companies are far from perfect. But empirical data is required before vaccines are used. Stubborn paranoia and unsubstantiated claims aren't antidotes for scientific proof. I’m E. Curtis Johnson. No offense to my anti-vaxing friends, but if there were a vaccine to protect us from illogical thought; anti-vaxers wouldn’t get the shot anyway.
