MDT Billings Traffic Study
The Montana Department of Transportation’s Traffic and Safety Bureau conducted a traffic study in 2016 in Billings between 27th Street and 18th Street along Montana Avenue, after businesses in the area expressed concerns, including pedestrian safety and the speed of vehicles in the area, given that the stretch of road has no traffic signals or stop signs. KTVQ.com analysis of the report shows that the majority of cars were traveling above the posted limit, but not as fast as many of the area business people believed.
Business owners and residents on Montana Avenue met with the Department of Transportation to discuss options for the increasingly busy roadway. MDT’s recommendation was to install overhead flashing lights at the 25th Street crossing, add more signage, and modify foliage to increase visibility. The modifications would cost a little more than $170,000.
