Eight Sex Offenders Noncompliant in Great Falls Roundup
Montana Attorney General Tim Fox is still working on upholding a campaign promise to clean up Montana’s Sexual or Violent Offender Registry and insure its accuracy. Between January 19 and the 21, a multi-agency task force investigate 129 sexual or violent offenders in Great Falls. Registry checks have been done in Great Falls before, and Fox said the process is yielding good results.
"We're starting to see the offenders become more compliant voluntarily. We've done them twice now in the Great Falls, Cascade County area," Fox said. "The first time we did it, we had 50 noncompliant offenders and we brought them into compliance. In the latest one we only had eight noncompliant offenders."
Three of the noncompliant offenders have since registered properly, some of the others are now under arrest.
"We also made some arrests. There were three arrests for probation-parole violations. There were two people arrested for felony narcotics warrants," Fox said. "We also interdicted a small amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia."
Fox said they plan on doing at least three of these offender registry checks per year, though, he wouldn’t say which Montana County would be next.
