The Award Show-Union Speech Mash Up
There are so many award shows on TV that I was half way through President Obama’s speech last night before I realized America wasn't walking away with a trophy! We’d be better served if Sunday’s Grammy Awards were presented as a mash-up with the State of the Union address.
Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr could have walked into the Capitol building and rumors would have immediately spread that Vice President Joe Biden is getting back together. Every State of the Union speech is like a Milli Vanilli concert: it looks and sounds good, but someone else wrote it and the President lip-synced the performance.
“State of the Union” is political speak for, “Continue to sell the agenda even if it’s not working.” Presidents will stop doing this as soon as Taylor Swift writes about something other than her break ups. Meaning, never!
I’m E. Curtis Johnson. If the Grammys and the State of the Union were combined, President Obama could have promised to redistribute the awards of the winners to some of the non-winners.
