Here’s What Happened to Missoula Afghan Rape Suspect
Whatever happened in the case involving the Afghan asylee who was prosecuted for raping a young woman in Missoula?
The Afghan terrorist who shot and killed a young female West Virginia National Guard soldier in our nation's capital has put a renewed spotlight on the massive number of refugees that flooded into the US.
Earlier this week, the Department of Homeland Security highlighted several examples of Afghans who came to the US following Joe Biden's disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan and then committed crimes in this country. DHS highlighted a rape case out of Missoula as one of the examples.
So whatever happened with that guy?
According to a previous report in the Missoulian, the Afghan man, Zabihullah Mohmand, entered an Alford plea in July 2022 to a reduced charge of misdemeanor sexual assault in Missoula, Montana, following an incident that occurred in October 2021.
Is he still in Montana?
I reached out to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and got the answer.
According to an ICE spokeswoman, "Mohmand was released from ICE custody in December 2022 and is currently being monitored by ERO in Boston."
The ICE spokeswoman noted how Mohmand had only been in the country a whopping two weeks before being charged with the crime in Missoula.
Here is the original statement sent out by ICE at the time.
- Zabihullah Mohmand, 19, is a citizen of Afghanistan who was paroled into the United States under Operation Allied Refuge. After relocating to Montana, the Missoula Police Department arrested Mohmand and charged him with sexual intercourse without consent Oct. 17, 2021. ICE lodged an immigration detainer with the Missoula County Detention Center (MCDC) Oct. 19, 2021, with Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Salt Lake City taking Mohmand into custody July 15. Mohmand remains in custody pending removal proceedings with the Justice Department’s Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR).
