Montana Insurance Commissioner Worried Healthcare.gov Problems Could be Critical

Montana’s Commissioner of Insurance Monica Lindeen hasn’t been shy recently in her criticism of the federalhealth exchange website roll out.

Lindeen told a group of state legislators on Tuesday, October 22, that the website’s failure is hard to take.

“I’m glad the president acknowledged what everybody in Montana already knows,” Lindeen said. “The federal insurance marketplace website isn’t working. This is unacceptable.”[Peter Christian, KGVO]

Ryan Zinke Running for Montana’s U.S. House Seat

Ryan Zinke, a former Navy Seal Team Six member and Montana state representative from Whitefish, announced this week that he is running for Montana’s lone U.S. House seat as a Republican.

Zinke said he wants to focus on the values of individual freedom, economic freedom, and energy independence.

“You can’t fuel this country on pixie dust and hope. It is about fossil fuels, making them more efficient, making fossil fuels cleaner. My daughter is a former Navy diver, she’s married to an active duty Seal, and the last couple wars are about oil, and I think Montanans are tired of sending our kids overseas to fight for foreign oil.”[Jon King, KGVO]

Montanans Awarded for Fighting Mental Illness, State Still Behind Much of Nation

The Montana chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness has announced the winners of its 2013 Hero Awards. The awards are dedicated to individuals or organizations that have fought for better mental health in their community. All of the winners this year were either from Helena or Western Montana communities, like Stevensville, Hamilton, and Missoula.

According to NAMI Montana Executive Director Matt Kuntz, Montana is improving, but it is still worse off than most states when it comes to many mental health issues. [Jon King, KGVO]
