Man Accused of Ramming Walmart Shoppers With Cart, Waving Knife ‘Menacingly’
37-year-old Justus Miller is sitting in the Missoula County Jail after 911 was called over the weekend following an odd series of attacks at the Walmart Supercenter on Mullan Road.
"Well, it happened on Saturday, about 2:46 in the afternoon," said Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh. "Officers responded to a 911 call from a department store in the 3500 block of Mullan Road after employees had asked a man to leave the store, he had apparently been running around the store with a shopping cart and running into people."
No one appears to have been seriously injured in the cart attacks, but when confronted, Miller pulled out a more deadly weapon and threatened loss-prevention employees.
"They were escorting him to the front of the store and at one point he pulled out a knife opened the blade and held it out menacingly in front of him toward the employees," Welsh said. "They felt threatened enough to back away from him and called 911. The man left the store with the knife in his hand however, when confronted by officers he dropped the knife without prompting and was taken into custody."
Miller is a transient and may have been heading to an encampment not far from the Reserve Street Bridge where he was caught. He is facing a felony assault with a weapon charge over the incident.
