
New FBI Special Agent in Charge of SLC Field Office Covers UT, ID, MT
There’s a new FBI special agent in charge of the Salt Lake City Field Office in Utah, which covers much more than just the state’s capitol.
The field office is based in Salt Lake City, Utah but covers all of Utah, Idaho, and Montana.
New FBI Special Agent In Charge of Utah, Montana, and Idaho
The FBI operates about 350 agencies across the United States that are all part of 55 field offices, also called ‘divisions’, in each state and Puerto Rico. The division headquarters for Idaho, Utah, and Montana are in Salt Lake City and there’s a new FBI special agent in charge.
On February 5th it was announced on the FBI website and in a Press Release that Mehtab Syed had been named the new Special Agent in Charge of the Salt Lake City Field Office. Syed has been a special agent since 2005 when she began work in New York.

She also worked in Pakistan, Newark, and Los Angeles in various roles before making it to SLC.
In addition to the Salt Lake City office, the following 17 ‘resident agencies’ and counties are covered by the SLC Field Office:
Utah
- Monticello: Emery, Grand, San Juan, and Wayne counties
- Provo: Carbon, Juan, Millard, Sanpete, Utah, and Wasatch counties
- St. George: Beaver, Garfield, Iron, Kane, Piute, Sevier, and Washington counties
- Vernal: Daggett, Duchesne, Summit (eastern section), and Uintah counties
Idaho
- Boise: Ada, Adams, Boise, Canyon, Custer, Elmore, Gem, Jerome, Lemhi, Lincoln, Owyhee, Payette, Washington, and Valley counties
- Coeur d'Alene: Benewah, Bonner, Boundary, Kootenai, and Shoshone counties
- Lewiston: Clearwater, Idaho, Latah, Lewis, and Nez Perce counties
- Pocatello: Bannock, Bear Lake, Bingham, Blaine, Bonneville, Butte, Camas, Caribou, Cassia, Clark, Franklin, Fremont, Gooding, Jefferson, Madison, Minidoka, Oneida, Power, Teton, and Twin Falls counties
Montana
- Billings: Big Horn, Carbon, Carter, Custer, Fallon, Fergus, Golden Valley, Musselshell, Petroleum, Powder River, Prairie, Rosebud, Stillwater, Sweet Grass, Treasure, Wheatland, Wibaux, and Yellowstone counties
- Bozeman: Gallatin, Madison, Meagher, and Park counties
- Glasgow: Daniels, Dawson, Garfield, McCone, Richland, Roosevelt, Sheridan, and Valley counties
- Great Falls: Cascade, Chouteau, Judith Basin, and Teton counties
- Helena: Beaverhead, Broadwater, Deer Lodge, Jefferson, Lewis and Clark, Powell, and Silver Bow counties
- Kalispell: Flathead, Lake, Lincoln, and Sanders counties
- Missoula: Granite, Mineral, Missoula, and Ravalli counties
- Shelby: Glacier, Pondera, and Toole counties
- Top Havre: Blaine, Hill, Liberty, and Phillips counties

The FBI also recently announced on February 6th that they are investigating an agent-involved shooting in Caldwell, Idaho.
