Where are your favorite Bobcats predicted to play at the next level?

With the NFL playoffs heating up, we thought it'd be fun to take a look at what the experts are saying about Montana State’s prospects for the NFL draft.

‘Touchdown’ Tommy Mellott - QB 2024 Stats

  • Passing - 204 completions on 301 attempts (67.8%)
  • 2,783 yds 31 TDs, 2 INTs, 24 Sacks, 178.1 RTG
  • Rushing - 123 carries for 1,050 yds, 15 TDs

One of Montana State’s most beloved QBs has played his final year with the Cats. At only 6’0”, 208 lbs, Mellott would be quite undersized at the QB position. While Tommy does have excellent athletic ability, he lacks the height to look over the big linemen at the professional level and the arm strength to make the deep throws.

While his arm has shown some promise this year, Mellott finally throwing for over 300 attempts for the first time this year, most teams don’t draft for development these days. A 2-time 1,000+ yard rusher, there’s hope that Mellott may be the next Taysom Hill, a gadget player who’s used in a multitude of roles within an offense.

With experts saying his skills may need a few years to develop, Mellott is a possibly undrafted fringe 7th-round pick, though we'd be surprised if we didn’t see him on a roster come Camp time.

Marcus Wehr - OL

Arguably the biggest cog in the Bobcats' offensive machine, the 6’4”, 300 lb offensive tackle Marcus Wehr had another dominant year leading the way for Mellott and the Bobcat running backs.

Starting his career as a defensive lineman, the 1st team All-Big Sky lineman has been ranked among the top in the FCS for the last two years. The experts have Marcus pinned as a run-blocker, given his quickness and solid fundamentals. While development will be necessary for the next level, his ability to block in the open field should make him a target for a run-happy program.

While his IQ and physical abilities are listed as strengths, his pass blocking may hold him back in the draft. With the Bobcats being a run-first team, and a perceived lack of top-tier competition in the FCS, scouts have cited Marcus’ pass protection as a con and may drop him down a round or two. Wehr is predicted to go on day 3 of the draft.

Brody Grebe - DE 2024 Stats

  • 26 solo, 16 assisted (42 total),
  • 8.5 sacks,
  • 1 forced fumble

A stalwart on the defensive side of the ball for MSU, Brody Grebe earned the 2024 Big Sky Defensive MVP and 1st Team All-Big Sky. The 6’3”, 250lb defensive end led Montana State to the #15 defense in the nation, limiting opposing teams to just 4.13 yards per rushing attempt.

Just a tad under the average size of NFL defensive ends, the Melstone Cowboy has shown that he has the relentless motor and the ability to improve across his time at MSU. Brody is expected to go in the 7th round if at all, but like Mellott, he has the floor to make an impact in camps.

Brendan Hall - P/K 2024 Stats

  • 44 punts, 46.0 yard average,
  • 68 long
  • 2,024 total yards

Starting his career at SMU, Brendan Hall played the last two years at MSU where he earned All-America and 1st Team All-Big Sky during 2023, and preseason All-Big Sky and All-America this year.

At 6’9”, 235 lbs Brendan Hall would’ve had a basketball career as well. With a four-second hangtime and an average yardage of 46, Brendan Hall should be looked at by every team in the league for his ability to flip the field with a single kick. Projected to be undrafted or go in the 7th round, the Texas Native should have success wherever he goes.
