Meet These Adorable Montana Mini Cows Friday in Billings
Cows are common in Montana. Mini cows are not.
The Treasure State is home to over 2.1 million cows; that's nearly 2 cows for every human. All of us have seen cattle in pastures, feedlots, and wide-open spaces across Montana. But it's not every day that you get to meet a tiny version of a cow.
KOW'S Mini Cows is bringing some of their pint-sized cows to Billings on Friday, September 27 to MorningStar Senior Living at 4001 Bell Ave (off Shiloh) from 2 - 4 PM. The event is free and all ages are invited. You can pet them, cuddle them, and certainly get some fun photos.
Mini and micro cows are possibly the cutest bovine ever.
My pre-teen is currently obsessed with Scottish Highland Cows. We recently updated her bathroom and the artwork is various pieces featuring fluffy, long-horned cute little cows, per her request.
My wife jokes "We should get one!" whenever we see one, and if I had the appropriate property, I'd probably agree. What's not to love about these shaggy, miniature cattle?
We caught up with Kylie Walker, owner of KOW'S Mini Cows.
Walker and her family ranch near Huntley. In addition to the small specialty cows, they raise beef cattle and American Quarter Horse Association horses. Kylie got into the miniature and micro cow business in 2020 with one bull and four cows.
Fast forward to 2024, and they now have five bulls and over 20 tiny cows in their breeding plan. This year, they've sold seventeen calves from those momma cows to buyers across the United States and Canada.
There's a difference between mini and micro cows.
Miniatures are 46 inches and under, while micros are under 36 inches tall. Yes, they produce milk. Cheesemakers are interested in mini and micro cow milk because it's quite rich in butterfat.
We had a lot of questions about these little guys and gals. You can catch a portion of the edited interview below. Due to a poor connection, I apologize for the rough edits and call-quality drop-outs.
KOW'S Mini Cows doesn't do as many off-the-ranch events as they used to, mainly because of logistics. You may have seen that at the Petting Zoo at MontanaFair this year or at a recent Cow Pie Bingo event in Huntley. Walker said she gets many requests from professional photographers interested in photo shoots at their place.
Don't miss your chance to check out these super cute little cows on Friday afternoon at MorningStar Senior Living.
