After 14 years of dedicated service, Jeff Ewelt, Executive Director of Zoo Montana, has announced that he will be stepping down from his position to assume a new role as Chief Zoological Officer at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. Jeff will officially begin his new role on April 14th.
During his time at Zoo Montana, Jeff has played a critical role in shaping the Zoo into a renowned institution known for its commitment to conservation, education, and stellar animal care. His leadership has helped grow Zoo Montana into a treasure for our Billings community, and his passion and love for wildlife, the Zoo's mission, and his team has been evident throughout his time at Zoo Montana.
I sent Jeff a message last night as I have known him for years and years and years and asked him if there was anything he would like me to add to what has been said about him leaving. "Just that I am thankful everyone for believing in me and my vision of what the zoo could be, and my media partners like you that gave me an incredible platform to make that happen!" - Jeff Ewalt
"I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Billings community for the unwavering support I’ve received over the past 14 years. It has been an honor to serve as Executive Director of ZooMontana, and I am incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together," said Jeff Ewelt. "This opportunity with Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is one that I could not pass up professionally, but leaving behind the Zoo Montana family and the community that has supported me so wholeheartedly
is bittersweet. Zoo Montana is in great hands with an incredible team already in place, and I am excited to see the continued growth and success of this organization." - Zoo Montana Press Release
I want to personally thank Jeff for all of the memories and events over the years. He made my dream come true to see Winston the sloth up close and personal and for that and everything else I am forever grateful. Thank you, Jeff, for all that you have done for our Billings community. We all wish you well on your new adventure!
