Montana Governor Greg Gianforte recently announced that state employees in Montana donated over 2,500 pounds of food to the Montana Food Bank Network (MFBN) through his second annual interagency food drive competition. The drive, which ran from December 1 to December 16, was part of the governor's 12 Days of Giving campaign and aimed to help feed and nourish those facing food insecurity in the state. MFBN, which has been helping feed Montanans since 1983, is the only statewide organization in the state dedicated to fighting hunger and works with over 340 partners across Montana's 56 counties to provide high-quality, nutritious food.

This year, the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services took first place in the interagency food drive competition, with 453 food items donated. The Montana Department of Revenue came in second place with 408 food items donated, and the Montana Department of Commerce placed third with 368 food items donated. MFBN estimates that a donation of just $1 can provide at least five meals for those in need. The organization is currently seeking donations of a variety of non-perishable food items, including canned tuna, peanut butter, canned soup, beans, and vegetables, as well as baby food, formula, and other items.

Overall, the interagency food drive competition was a success in raising awareness about food insecurity and providing much-needed support to those in need. Governor Gianforte praised the generosity of the state employees who participated, saying, "Thanks to the generosity of our state employees, we’re helping feed and nourish our neighbors facing food insecurity."
