While Montana is home to some scary to drive roads such as Going-to-the-Sun Road or MacDonald Pass it's not exactly known by residents for having intimidating roads as far as traffic and things like that.

In fact, according to a study by Foster Wallace, Montana ranks as the 6th least intimidating state to drive in, with an intimidation score of only 1.43 out of 100.

Factors Contributing to Montana's Low Intimidation Score

The study took into account factors like the number of roundabouts, speed cameras, and traffic volume to determine the overall intimidation index score for each state.

Interestingly, Montana stands out with a low density of roundabouts at 0.93 per 1,000 miles of public road and with no recorded speed cameras. This means that drivers in Montana encounter fewer complex road features compared to drivers in some other states.

Less Congestion, More Serenity

One of the reasons behind Montana's low intimidation factor is the vehicle miles traveled per 1,000 miles of road, which is significantly low at 434.39 million. This indicates less congestion and traffic-related stress for drivers in the state.
