
High-Speed Chase in Columbus, Montana Ends Near Grass Lake Refuge with Suspect Still at Large
In the early hours of June 17, at approximately 1:02 a.m., Columbus Police initiated a traffic stop on a black Cadillac. What began as a routine attempt to pull over the vehicle quickly escalated when the driver refused to stop, taking off northbound at a high rate of speed.
Suspect Leads Law Enforcement on County-Wide Chase
The fleeing vehicle continued for several miles, speeding through Stillwater County before eventually crashing in a field situated between Big Lake and Grass Lake Refuge. Authorities say the car was wrecked out in rough terrain, halting the suspect's attempt to escape by vehicle.

Suspect Flees on Foot and Remains at Large
Following the crash, the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. As of now, the individual remains at large. Officers describe him as wearing a white t-shirt and blue pants, and due to the conditions of the field, it is believed he is very muddy.

Public Caution: Do Not Approach
Law enforcement is urging residents in the area to remain vigilant. If you see someone matching the suspect’s description, do not approach. Instead, call 911 immediately or contact the Stillwater County Dispatch Center at 322-5326. Authorities are actively searching the area and ask for the public’s cooperation in keeping the community safe.
