On Saturday, May 31, the Billings community was shaken by the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Luke Ferguson. Known for his kind heart, contagious energy, and deep love for his family and community, Luke’s unexpected passing has left a hole that words can’t begin to fill.

A Life Built on Love and Loyalty

Luke was born on August 18, 1981, and though he was given the name Lucas, most knew him simply as Luke - a name that became synonymous with generosity, laughter, and dedication. He was a devoted husband to Amanda, with whom he celebrated 20 years of marriage this past February. Together, they raised three incredible children: Jazmyn, Lily, and Anthony.

Family was everything to Luke. Whether it was cheering on his kids, sharing inside jokes with his siblings, or mentoring young athletes, his presence made people feel seen, valued, and cared for.

The Coach Everyone Looked Up To

Outside of his home, Luke was known across Billings as a dedicated coach with Upper Deck. But to the kids he mentored, he was more than a coach. Luke was a role model, a cheerleader, and a trusted friend. His passion for baseball ran deep, but even deeper was his love for the “other kids” he guided on the field. Luke poured his heart into the game, always showing up with a smile, words of encouragement, and a commitment to giving his best.

A Community Coming Together in Grief and Love

The grief felt by Luke’s family, friends, and athletes is immeasurable, and many are asking how they can help. A GoFundMe page has been created to support Amanda and their children as they navigate this overwhelming time. Contributions will help fill in financial gaps while allowing the family space to grieve and heal.

Every donation, share, and kind word matters. As many have said, Luke gave 100% to everything he did, and now it’s our turn to give back.

Pack the Park for Luke’s Boys: A Night of Tribute and Togetherness

On Tuesday, June 10, the community is invited to gather at Beartooth Elementary School (1345 Elaine Street) for a very special baseball game: Pack the Park for Luke’s Boys. This isn’t just a game, though; it’s a chance to celebrate Luke’s legacy, honor the young athletes he mentored, and show unwavering support for the kids who saw him as more than a coach.

Special shirts will be available at the event, first come, first served, as a way to remember and represent the impact Luke made. The game will be filled with emotion, but also with the love and pride that Luke himself brought to the field every single day.
