Early Morning Crash Shuts Down 1st Avenue South in Billings
If you need to travel around Billings early this morning, you’ll want to slow down and reroute if needed. The Billings Police Department reports that officers are currently on the scene of a vehicle versus power pole crash that has caused a downed power line and a road closure.
1st Avenue South Closed Between 41st and State
Because of the crash and the power line issue, 1st Avenue South is closed in both directions between South 41st Street and State Avenue. Eastbound and westbound traffic is being stopped while crews secure the area.
No Injuries Have Been Reported
The incident is being classified as a non-injury crash, which is the good news. While the damage to infrastructure is serious enough to close the road, police confirm no one was hurt.

Cold Temperatures and Slick Conditions This Morning
Temperatures are cold, with a daytime high expected to reach around 16 degrees and overnight lows near 11 degrees. With conditions like this, drivers are being reminded to watch for slick or icy spots, especially on bridges and less-traveled roads.
Crews Are Taking Extra Time for Safety
Any crash involving a power pole and lines requires extra caution. Officers and utility crews are working to make sure the area is safe before traffic is allowed to move through again.
Drivers Urged to Slow Down and Be Careful
If you’re out driving this morning, especially through the South Side, take it slow and give yourself extra stopping distance. With cold temperatures and icy patches still possible, conditions can change quickly even if the sun is out.

When Will the Road Reopen?
Officials say an update will be provided to the Billings Police Facebook page once the power lines are secured and 1st Avenue South is reopened. For now, drivers should plan alternate routes and avoid the area if possible.
