Dante: A Cute Little Pup, Ready for His New Home in Billings
It's been a challenging few weeks for Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter, after an incinerator at their facility on Monad Road malfunctioned while law enforcement was destroying seized methamphetamine. Yes, I realize how crazy that sentence sounds.
The entire facility was reportedly exposed to toxic contaminants, and fourteen staffers who were present at the time of the incident were all admitted to the hospital for treatment. Thankfully, no animals died from the exposure.
The Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter has resumed most of its daily operations at a temporary facility located at 6400 S. Frontage Road. Thank you to Lionheart Cannabis for letting them use their warehouse space (at no charge!).

Meet Dante, Billings' featured Wet Nose Wednesday pet.
Derek Wulf, Humane Outreach Coordinator at YVAS, brought us a fun little dog today for Wet Nose Wednesday. His name is Dante, and the shelter has this cutie-pie listed as a 10-year-old Chihuahua/Terrier mix.

Dante is super friendly, and he was clearly loved. Attempts by the shelter to contact the owner listed on Dante's microchip have been unsuccessful, and this pint-sized fella is now ready to be adopted.
Despite his age, Dante is an active dog who nosily explored our offices and studios during his stop by. At ten, he qualifies for the Shelter's "Seniors for Seniors" program, where older adults can adopt older pets for a substantial savings on the adoption fee.
How can you help the shelter right now?
Wulf said lots of locals have reached out, asking what they can do to help as they navigate working from a temporary location. Since essentially everything got ruined from the incinerator malfunction, they need stuff. Pet toys, blankets, paper towels, puppy pads, soft cat/kitten food, dog food, you name it.
You can drop off donations for YVAS at 6400 S. Frontage Road during the shelter's hours of operation. Please do not dump your donations in the Lionheart parking lot. This should go without saying, but... people, right?
Thank you, Shipton's Big R, for supporting animal adoption in the Billings area with Wet Nose Wednesday. Browse the pets currently available for adoption at Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter HERE.
