Who Put Glacier National Park on the ‘No List’?

Beloved Glacier National Park, the "Crown of the Continent," is one of the most spectacular places in Montana, if not the nation. It became the 7th National Park when designated in 1910.

Millions of visitors from around the world come to Glacier each year. In fact, 2025 looks to be on track for another record-setting year. And that's the problem. With so many people coming to Glacier, the park has now landed on the dreaded No List.

Interestingly, they just dropped the reservation list requirement for Glacier National Park.

What is the No List?

I was scrolling Reddit last night when I came across this thread. The headline screamed, "Glacier park on the 'Do not visit list for 2026'. 

"Well, that's interesting," I thought. "I wonder who (and why) they are telling people not to visit Glacier National Park next year?" Turns out, the No List comes from the folks at Fodor's Travel, a hugely popular travel website.

Each year, they compile a list of destinations that are becoming so overcrowded with visitors that it not only ruins the experience but can also contribute to the ecological harm of the destination.

Deny all you want, the glaciers in Glacier are disappearing.

Fodor's notes that when Glacier first became a National Park, it had roughly 150 glaciers. Today, there are just 27, and those are expected to disappear by 2030 due to climate change.

Humans seem to have an inherent case of "FOMO," the fear of missing out. Many visitors might come to Glacier to see... well, glaciers. And if they think the glaciers will be gone in a few years, then they think they'd better hurry up and visit before the ice is all gone.
