Billings has a plethora of options for a great steak, but sometimes you want to hit the open road, crank some tunes, and enjoy a delicious meal in a small-town setting. Here are eight steakhouse destinations—each roughly an hour or less from the Magic City—that are well worth the drive.

3 North Bar & Grill – Acton

Located just northwest of town, 3 North is a gem with top-notch steaks and a relaxed vibe. Their ribeye gets a lot of local love.

The Grand Bar – Roundup

Classic Montana steakhouse fare with old-school charm. The Grand Bar in Roundup is a local favorite. Unpretentious and affordable, get the prime rib if it's on special. The ribeye is good too.

Edgar Bar – Edgar

Known far and wide for their steaks and jumbo prawns, Edgar Bar draws loyal diners from across the region. A must-visit.

Carbon County Steakhouse – Red Lodge

Classy but still very Montana. If you're in Red Lodge and craving beef, the Carbon County Steakhouse delivers—especially the filet or cowboy cut ribeye.

Bearcreek Saloon – Bearcreek

Come for the steaks, stay for the pig races in the summer months. Seriously. The Bearcreek Saloon - "Where Pigs Fly" - is a classic spot that combines excellent food with unique entertainment. It's dinner and a show, Montana-style.

The Grand Hotel – Big Timber

A bit of a stretch from Billings, at 80-ish miles away, but worth it. The restaurant in this historic hotel serves up steaks that match the setting: timeless. My restaurant-owner friend vouches for their incredible food.
