How Does Google Autocomplete These Searches About Montana?
If you've never been bored enough to play the "Autocomplete Game" with Google, you might be missing out. It's a great way to get some insight on what people are searching for.
I'm not going to pretend to know all of the fancy, patented, secret algorithms that Google uses to work its magic, but most of us have seen the autocomplete feature when you're typing in a search. Google tries to anticipate what you are going to search for based on its most popular searches for that topic.
Just out of curiosity, I thought I'd give it a try with some generic things like:
- Why do Montanans
- Is Montana
- Will Montana
- Why does Montana
- Do Montanans
It's kind of sad that it was the one and only choice.
Yes, no, yes, yes, yes,not really,no,seriously?,no, and mostly republican
Legalizing marijuana comes in first and ninth place. My guess would be "probably not anytime soon". (See the "mostly republican" comment above)
We have a state fossil? I will probably google that as soon as I'm finished here.
I've encountered several. It's a big state.
Not only does this experiment give you some insight as to what people look for and expect of Montana, it also gives you a whole new way to goof off at work.
